BEAUTY: Clothing--Antonio Marras

"You talkin' to me?...
You talkin' to me?"

Immortal words uttered by Robert De Niro as Travis Bickle in Scorsese's film "Taxi Driver"...that have made their way onto a shirt for Antonio Marras' FW '15-'16 collection at Milano Moda Uomo. It seems unlikely to base a collection--at least in part--on an unhinged psychopath, but as I observed in a post a few days ago for KTZ's collection based on another psychopath, Alex from "A Clockwork Orange" seen here, cinema seems to inspire more designers than anything else. And Marras takes Bickle's green army jacket a step further with camouflage. A gun motif shows up too. But all this is tempered by Marras' other inspiration, Italian artist Costantino Nivola who moved from Europe to New York in 1940 who is represented in the collection by classic tailoring on suit and separates. The models were obviously Bickle but during the show, a man in a suit and hat sat at a table at the rear of the stage, typing on an Olivetti typewriter. Nivola worked for Olivetti from 1936 to 1939 when he had to flee the Fascism of Italy.

This is normally something I might put in a wrap-up post at the end of the week, but there is just something intriguing about this mash-up... Inspiration can come from the oddest places...
